Fencing in Corby
Corby's estates were built quickly for steelworkers, and in Kingswood, Lodge Park, Beanfield and Danesholme many of the original boundaries have been replaced several times. Out at Priors Hall Park, gardens are often handed over as bare, compacted plots with basic panels, and owners want something more solid and more private. The older villages, Corby Village, Great Oakley and Weldon, bring stone walls and conservation areas into the picture. Each needs a different approach.
We fit closeboard timber on concrete posts with gravel boards for value and durability, and composite or aluminium slatted fencing on aluminium posts where the owner wants a low-maintenance modern look. On new-build plots we often design the whole boundary at once, with side gates and a slatted privacy screen by the patio, so the garden is finished properly rather than piecemeal. Where ground is soft or filled, we tell you on the visit how that changes the posts.
What makes Corby different
Corby sits on Northampton Sand ironstone, and large areas around the town were opencast quarried and restored. Within one garden we can go from natural rock to clay or fill, and that changes how a post behaves. We dig before setting out, and set concrete or aluminium posts in concrete at the depth the ground needs. Near the Willow Brook, wetter ground is another reason for gravel boards. Corby has nine conservation areas, but its only Article 4 direction concerns houses in multiple occupation, not fences.
A typical Corby job is a house on Priors Hall Park or one of the New Town estates with a rear garden enclosed by thin panels. We remove them, set concrete posts to suit the ground we find, fit gravel boards and closeboard or slatted panels, and add a gate to the side path.
