Composite & timber decking in Corby
Decks for Corby gardens, from Kingswood and Lodge Park to bare new plots at Priors Hall Park, built on footings we have dug for.
A 15–20m² composite deck in Corby is usually £3,000–£5,000, with composite at £200–£250 per m² supplied and fitted and softwood timber at £110–£140 per m². The key local factor is the ground. Large areas around Corby were opencast quarried and restored, so a garden can change from ironstone to clay or fill in a few metres, and each support must sit on something firm.

Composite & timber decking in Corby
Corby's New Town estates, Kingswood, Lodge Park, Beanfield and Danesholme among them, were built for steelworkers, and many of their back gardens now have tired lawns or cracked slab patios that a deck can replace. Around the older settlements of Corby Village, Great Oakley and Weldon the gardens are more varied. At Priors Hall Park, where more than 5,000 homes are planned, many gardens are handed over as bare, compacted plots that need a lot of work before they are usable.
For those new plots a deck can be a quicker route to a usable garden than digging out compacted ground for a patio. We build on a braced frame with posts or pads on firm ground, a treated or aluminium sub-frame at the right joist spacing, and a weed membrane and drainage beneath. Composite is the common choice for families who want boards that will not splinter or need staining.
What makes Corby different
Corby sits on the Northampton Sand ironstone that fed the steelworks, but much of the land around the town was opencast quarried and then restored. In a single garden we can find natural ironstone at one end and clay or fill at the other, and fill is not a safe bearing for a post. We dig at the support positions on the visit and adjust depth or layout to suit. Near the Willow Brook, drainage under the deck gets extra attention.
A typical Corby deck is a low composite platform across the back of an estate house, replacing slabs or patchy grass, sized to leave lawn for children. On a Priors Hall Park plot it often starts with clearing builder's debris, breaking up compaction, digging for firm ground at each support, and then building the frame and fitting the boards.

Permissions in Corby
- PlanningDecking in a rear garden is normally permitted development if no part of it is more than 30cm above the ground and, with other outbuildings and platforms, it covers no more than half the garden. A raised deck over 30cm needs planning permission, and a listed house needs consent. Listed buildings and the Corby conservation area have tighter rules, so we check your address before anything is designed. Planning Portal: decking
- TreesTrees in a conservation area need six weeks' notice before work, and protected trees need consent; both are free. North Northamptonshire: tree protection
