Composite & timber decking in Ryhall
Composite and timber decks for Ryhall and Belmesthorpe homes, on limestone that drains well and with extra care beside the Gwash.
Composite decking in Ryhall typically costs £200–£250 per m² supplied and fitted, and softwood timber decking £110–£140 per m², with a 15–20m² composite deck usually £3,000–£5,000. The village is on limestone that generally drains well, but the River Gwash runs through it and Rutland's flood strategy names Ryhall among places with a few properties at river flood risk, so river-side plots get a closer look.

Composite & timber decking in Ryhall
Ryhall, with Belmesthorpe, sits on the River Gwash just north of Stamford. Around the green and the church are stone cottages, and beyond them later estate housing, much of it built by the same post-war and modern housebuilders as Stamford's estates. Those estate gardens tend to share a pattern: a small slab patio by the back door and a lawn, which a deck can replace with a larger, level sitting area.
We build each deck on a braced frame, with posts or pads on firm ground, a treated or aluminium sub-frame at the right joist spacing for the boards, and a weed membrane and drainage underneath. Because Ryhall is in Rutland rather than Lincolnshire, planning sits with Rutland County Council, and the conservation area here has no Article 4 direction, unlike Stamford just down the road. Each plot is still checked on its own merits.
What makes Ryhall different
Most of Ryhall is on limestone, which usually drains well and gives firm ground for deck supports close to the surface. The Gwash changes that near the river, where ground is wetter. For a garden that runs down towards the water we test before setting any posts, raise the frame clear of damp ground, and leave the space under the deck open so water can pass. On higher estate plots the base is usually more straightforward.
A typical Ryhall deck replaces the small builder's patio behind an estate house with a composite deck sized for outdoor dining, with a step to the lawn. Behind the stone cottages it is more often a smaller softwood deck. The work covers checking the ground, setting supports, building the frame, and laying membrane and boards.

Permissions in Ryhall
- PlanningDecking in a rear garden is normally permitted development if no part of it is more than 30cm above the ground and, with other outbuildings and platforms, it covers no more than half the garden. A raised deck over 30cm needs planning permission, and a listed house needs consent. Listed buildings and the Ryhall conservation area have tighter rules, so we check your address before anything is designed. Planning Portal: decking
- TreesTrees in a conservation area need six weeks' notice before work, and protected trees need consent; both are free. Rutland County Council: tree works
